What it Means to Rise

Summer Is FAST Approaching!

Hi, this is Mercedes! I am the director of Machaca Summer Camp. I just wanted to pop on and give you an idea of what the vision is for this year’s camp. Each year we as a staff pray about the theme. We ask God what his heart is for the youth of our nation. We seek His face until we have a clear vision of his desire for the hearts of His kids.

This year the theme is “Rise.”

This theme is taken from Isaiah as well as Belize’s national anthem. First, Isaiah 60 & 61, both chapters talk about His glory rising on the people. They also declare beauty from ashes - strength instead of mourning - praise instead of despair. It talks about God firmly planting His people in the land, and that many nations will come to see what God is doing. We firmly believe that this is what God is doing right now in the Nation of Belize. We have already seen some of these chapters come true, and we know we will see more! With this mighty call on this nation, we also call the youth, our future to RISE. We are calling them to rise as Sons and Daughters of God and usher in new realities, new dreams, new hopes, and new beginnings.

Along with the chapters in Isaiah we have pulled the theme from our National Anthem. The line says “Arise, ye sons of the Baymen’s Clan. Put on your armor. Clear the Land. Drive back the tyrants, let despots flee. Land of the Free by the Carib Sea.”

The word Despot means: aruleror other person who holds absolute power, typically one who exercises it in a cruel or oppressive way.

We believe as sons and daughters rise in their identity in Jesus Christ they will make a stand against any foreign ruler or power that opresses the people. We believe that as revival comes, and the Holy Spirit rests upon us, freedom will reign. We know that this summer we are going to see a huge shift in this nation. We know that the shift will affect nations around the world. Most of our teachings will be on the subject of Identity - Who we are in Jesus. We will call them out of being a victim, and give them the opportunity to experience family and being a child of God. From these encounters, we believe that we will see Belize become a sending nation to the world.

 Like Isaiah 61 says:

"The Spirit of the SovereignLord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord’s favor has come, and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies. To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory."

We know that God’s Glory is going to shine bright from our small town! Thank you so much for all of your prayers and support!
